Welcome to the Largo High School Sport's Center!

North vs South Senior Showdown
by Adam Baker

It was a North vs. South Pinellas County senior showdown December 17th at Clearwater High School. This is the 18th Annual Pinellas All Star Football Classic which was made possible thanks to Palms of Pasadena Hospital, the Suncoast Football Coach’s Association and the Pinellas County Schools. The game has brought many top talent before such as Jeremi Powell (UF signee), and Dante Fowler (UF signee). This year the Largo Packers have five superstar senior that have been elected to represent there school on and off the football field, Juwan Brown, Reggie Moore, Harry Brown, Derrick Doss, and Marquise Martin (As shown to the right).

As the fog began to roll in, kickoff was getting set and the four to five thousand fans were getting settled into the stands. Coach Tom Bostic(North) and Steve Dudley(South) were both getting there teams prepared mentally on the sidelines. Harry Brown seemed the most emotional person out of all the players going up and down the sidelines yelling and repeatedly saying “let’s go! This is our last game, out last high school football game, let’s give it our all!” As kickoff was underway, Coach Bostics North team came out firing and was taking a big lead in the first quarter 13-0 with a beautiful pass from Pete Dinovo to Clearwater high schools Spencer Rice for a 13yard score and a run by Derek Barns (former Largo Packer) to put the North in a comfortable lead ending the 1st quarter.

Start of the 2nd quarter the South starts to get into their groove with a touchdown of their own making it a 13-7 ending the 1st half with momentum leaning towards the South. As the All Star band exits there halftime performance, the South team you can just see that the South team came out with a bit of extra swagger. In the Second half it was all South team, Marquez Valdes took over the game on both sides of the ball making several huge and amazing pass deflections looking to reach 11 feet high playing at the safety position and finishing with 3 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown and also adding a nice trophy to his collection saying “Marquez Valdes MVP”. The South won in a close one 23-20. The defensive line MVP was Harry Brown (Largo) with 2 sacks in the game.

Florida Tech gets Harry Brown's signature!

The Largo Packers have gone a combine 35 wins and only 11 losses in 4 seasons, winning a district title every year. The senior class is considered by many to be one of the best in Largo history and one of the closest. The unit of seniors has been playing since they were 8 years old, but if there was one player that stands out you’d notice Harry Brown. Not only will his 5’11” 200 lb chiseled frame catch you, but his on the field and off the field accomplishments to. Harry started on the varsity team his freshman season learning from players such as Mike Douglas (Kentucky University), Austin Mai, and Adarious Raynor (Indiana University). His sophomore year he played in every game racking up 34 tackles and 3 sacks while getting player of the game against Dunedin getting 2 crucial sacks. His junior campaign was another learning experience getting another 3 sacks in the season. Harry came into his senior year with one goal in mine, a state championship. Harry led the Packers to a 10-0 season and was looking forward to beating Armwood after they walloped Largo three years ago in the playoffs. Armwood came into the game prepared for war, literally for war as their shirts said “Prepare for War”. If war was what they want, then war is what they would get and there is no better team to compete then the Packers. Harry was dominate in the game getting 1.5 sacks, but the Packers could hold off in the last seconds as that concluded Harry’s football career as a Largo Packer. Harry completed his senior year with a total of 60 tackles and 7.5 sacks while maintaining a 4.2GPA. Bringing Largo 4 district titles and character to Largo High School, Harry Brown signed with Florida Tech University hoping to continue his career in the #2 engineering school in the state of Florida.
